History 243 September 17th, 2008 The two colonies of Chesapeake and New Eng realm were founded between 1607-1650. Virginia a colony of Chesapeake was the most spark advance Southern State where as Massachusetts a colony of New England was the most leading Northern State. These colonies were founded because England was becoming vastly over populated, it would be a safe haven for those trying to escape religious prosecution, come across economical advancement as well as land and liberty. Virginia first had 104 settlers who were young single men from the bottom of slope society in search of gold and areas of natural imagination to be exploited. Other settlers were artisans, merchants, landowning farmers, government officials, clergymen, high status craftsmen, African slaves and indentured servants from England. However, most settlers arrived in Massachusetts in families in order to escape religious hounding, hopes of a better economic system and the apprehension of Englands future. Virginia was economically successful, they produced tobacco and sugar. Chesapeake made a lot of revenue off them because Europeans enjoyed smoking tobacco and believed it had healthful benefits, as for sugar it was used instead of honey which was traditionally used. England collected taxes on tobacco that left or entered the country.
