Stevie Ray Vaughn

Stephen Stevie Ray Vaughn was born on October 3, 1954 in Dallas, Texas. His parents were Martha and Jimmie Big Jim Vaughn. It was because of them that Stevie and his companion Jimmie got into medicine. Martha and Big Jim loved to dance to Western swing music and were relay transmitters with a forget me drug in Texas called The Texas Playboys, who would bring alcoholic drinks and behave dominoes with Big Jim. It is believed that when this band would bring everyplace these drinks green Stevie would sneak sips and thats where his addiction to alcohol began. Stevie got his first guitar after 12 year old Jimmie got one from a family friend after a football accident hurt his shoulder. afterwards in an interview Stevie said it was a Roy Rogers toy guitar that had third strings and came with blankets. These two brothers would learn how to play songs by listen to albums that older brother Jimmie would bring home p belatedly. He would bring home albums from Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Yardbirds, and many other famous artists from the 60s. The Vaughn brothers biggest interest was in blues. They were big fans of Albert King, B.B. King, Otis Rush, and Buddy Guy. When Jimmie was 15, he joined band called The Chessmen.



One day Doyle Bramhall, who at the time was the lead singer for The Chessmen was picking up Jimmie for a gig when he over heard young Stevie playing his guitar. He was the first soul to tell Stevie that he was good.
When Stevie was 12 years old he started playing with different garage rock bands. His first arrangement was with a crowd called A Cast of Thousands. Needless to verbalize his guitar playing stood out. He started playing a lot of gigs when he entered high school. First, he played with a new group that his brother Jimmie started called Texas Storm. It wasnt long after he stop playing with them that he started his own group called Blackbird. They played late night gigs in local bars where he lived.
