nigh afternoon! My name is Brianna Esposito and I am here to disgorge to you today about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, in addition cognise as PTSD. PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by a shocking, terrifying, and disturbing experience. Originally known as shell shock, it is most common in war veterans and was first noticed in World state of war One in 1914. In fact, between 1914 and 1918 80,000 soldiers were identified as suffering from shell shock. PTSD has also been put in in victims of violent rape, physical attacks, and severe automobile accidents. It has been called a normal reaction to an abnormal situation. Many people who go through traumatic instances in their lifetime have problem adjusting and coping. With time and taking care of yourself, these feelings usually pass. However, sometimes the symptoms enshroud for months or even years. This long term affect is called PTSD.
The demand feature of PTSD is the experience of a traumatic event. In fact, it is the first criterion mentioned in the DSM IV, which is the fourth version of the American Psychiatric Associations Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.
on with this first criterion, the persons response to the event involves keen horror and helplessness. It has been argued that PTSD can result from many small, individually non-life-threatening events accumulating as well such as prolonged verbal, physical, stirred up or sexual abuse; however, the DSM IV does not do any specific reference to the point. The second criterion is the reliving of this event, in intruding recollections. The victim feels as if the traumatic event is reoccurring (including reliving the experience, illusions, hallucinations, and flashback episodes.)
