Raising a Standard

In the founding of our nation, George Washington made a truthful but immensely signifi outhouset statement: Let us raise a standard to which the wise and unprejudiced can repair. The importance and meaning of this statement never becomes more frank until a closer look into the workings of Americas government is taken. What Washington and the other Framers realized was there is contest in establishing impartiality; it could not be made so strict that it could not be altered to change with the times, nor could it be so vague as to cause divers interpretations. The law must be written to allow the wise and honest to change, but it should also be written in a way that the unjust cannot abuse it. What Washington understood was that all nation faces a potential of corruption because there ar those who seek power for themselves and their interests. Therefore, care must be taken when establishing the law.
As can be seen throughout our nations history, there has been several occasions in which the legal ashes was used inappropriately. One of the most vivid examples occurred during the Civil Rights Movement. term and again, the legislatures, governors, and police officers twisted the law, which enable them to carry out their atrocities toward the blacks.




During the 1960s, the mass of Deep federation states were infested with white supremacy. The accounts of cruelty and viciousness impose on the blacks sounds impossible and unbelievable for the land of the free. This same hesitation is what led Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer to ask Is this America? This was America, and shockingly, this was the inhumanity that dominated the South.
When Plessy vs. Ferguson was broken and integration was a Federal order, the whites in the Old South were determined to hang on to their tradition. Most blacks were set in their own custom of cowering under the whites out of fear. Changes seem undetectable until the blacks were motivated and the media was activated.
