pinchâ€" Using a unique monitoring experiment, we capture all software programs crossing a (lightly utilized) operational access router from a Tier-1 provider, and manipulation them to provide a detailed examination of router congestion and packet hold ins. The complete capture enables not just statistics as seen from immaterial the router, but also an accurate physical router model to be identified. As a result of its strict adherence to end-to-end congestion control, the current Internet suffers from two maladies: Congestion recrudesce from undelivered packets, and unfair allocations of bandwidth between competing traffic liquifys.
The first malady â€" congestion collapse from undelivered packets â€" arises when packets that are dropped before reaching their ultimate continually consume bandwidth destinations. The TCP algorithm, for instance, inherently causes each TCP flow to receive a bandwidth that is inversely proportional to its round-trip time.
Hence, TCP connections with shortstop round-trip times may receive unfairly large allocations of interlock bandwidth when compared to connections with longer round-trip times..
